about

(The track listing of this album is supposed to represent the cycle of a relationship as closely as possible. This song is about laying eyes on someone special for the first time.)

Written for a girl named Sara who's a capella singing blew me away at a local open-mic. I befriended her. She died a few years later from medicinal complications. One of her poems was called Zen Garden and I reference it in the song. I played it for her at the same open mic long after we'd become friends. She loved it but didn't realize it was about her until she asked who it was about. I'm not sure she ever fully believed it.

lyrics

(LYRICS)
The weeks go by so fast,
yet the months go on so long.
But time for me stands still,
when you start to sing your song.

Your words surround me like the sky.
They're deeper than the ocean.
They seep into my body, oh how I can feel their emotion.

And how I wish you could see exactly what you do to me. [When / Every time] you sing your song.
Angel with a voice that could stir the windows in heaven, let me in your heart.
Angel with a voice that could make a rose shed a tear, whisper in my ear.

Let me know your dreams.
Let me inside your Zen Garden.
Let me know if it hurt you,
when you fell down from heaven.

And how I wish you could see exactly what you do to me. [When / Every time] you sing your song.
Angel with a voice that could stir the windows in heaven, let me in your heart.
Angel with a voice that could make a rose shed a tear, whisper in my ear.
