about

(The track listing of this album is supposed to represent the cycle of a relationship as closely as possible. This song is the only one that doesn't totally follow that theme quite as well as the others.)

This was written about some people I know and myself and the frustration I felt when others would think they're so much smarter so they'd belittle or misunderstand the feelings or opinions of those friends of mine. Ultimately, the lyrics begin talking about my own personal struggles with being misunderstood and taken for granted. It's the "darkest" song on the album and I have to give Tool (who I'd recently discovered prior to writing this) credit for inspiring the sound.

It was also 1 of 2 songs written during the recording of the other songs and popped in at the last minute.

The title was found by a thesaurus which used it as a synonym for being smart & smug and I thought it would make a great paradox between the seemingly light-hearted title and the darkness of the song.

lyrics

(LYRICS)
Don't call him pessimistic.
Don't call him narcissistic.
He's as realistic as can be.
Don't call him apathetic.
Don't call him sinister.
He knows exactly what he's talking about.

You don’t know him (x4) like I do.

And all this talk about the world and how it's gonna be all right.
Well guess what... look around... It's not.

Don't call her hopeless romantic.
Don't call her idealistic.
She knows exactly what she's looking for.
Don't call her too poetic.
Don't call her copasetic.
She knows exactly what she's looking for.

You don't know her (x4) like I do.

And all this talk about love, and how it doesn't exist.
Well guess what... it does. I've felt it.

Don't call me pixilated.
Don't call me complicated.
I know exactly what I want.
Don't call me melancholy.
Don't call me civilized.
I'm as bloodthirsty as the next.

You don’t know me (x4) as well as you think.

And all this talk about nothing, and how it's gonna be something.
Well guess what, I'm still bleeding as we speak.
